Austin: Capital of ____________ (fill in the blank)

It is always interesting to sit back and watch an incident play out. And there was one that just occurred in Austin, Texas, that tells those — who are willing to be honest — all we need to know about the progressive socialist left.  It was just last year that the city council of Austin made a seriously bad decision for the city. Let me set the stage.

As reported this week by the Texas Scorecard:

“The story began back in  [last] June when the Austin City Council made it legal for vagrants to camp, sit, and lie down in public spaces across the city. Almost overnight, Austinites saw their streets, sidewalks, and highways littered with campsites, trash, and tent cities.

The council’s decision sparked a wildfire of public contention, prompting a slew of law enforcement and elected officials to speak out against it, and over 55,000 citizens signed a petition calling for the law’s reversal. Citizens also packed town halls over the summer, testifying to the harmful consequences of the law and angry that registered sex offenders were among those now allowed to sleep directly next to apartments and elementary schools. After four months of public outcry, safety risk, and council inaction—and a public warning from Gov. Abbott over the citizens’ safety—the council finally met in [last] October and changed their law, but they chose to reverse only parts of it.

In [last] November, Abbott took action and sent the state to begin protecting the community, instructing state officials to clean up encampments under highways and to direct homeless individuals to nonprofits for immediate help. Abbott also established a state campground near downtown where homeless people could receive assistance.”

From personal experience, having been in Austin several times last fall, the situation in downtown Austin is appalling. It appears that we have gone beyond “Keep Austin Weird” to make “Make Austin Unsafe.” And, sadly, that is exactly what just happened in the past week.

The left-leaning Patch.com reports:

“The suspect in [last] Friday’s stabbing attack in South Austin that left a person dead and others injured is a homeless person, police confirmed on Saturday.

Citing the ongoing nature of the investigation, police added they will not be releasing the suspect’s name or that of the person who died after being stabbed. An employee of Freebirds World Burrito, a man in his 20s, was fatally stabbed by the suspect after an earlier disturbance at an adjacent coffee shop. Another employee at the eatery, a man in his 50s, also was seriously injured.

The suspect — being described by police only as a Caucasian man in his 20s — then climbed onto the roof of the shopping center before running across it and jumping off — sustaining life-threatening injuries in the process, police said. The man subsequently was hospitalized in critical condition.”

What this leftist media outlet failed to report — as most leftist media outlets do — was that the homeless individual who committed the murder, and injured several others, had a violent criminal history. Of course, many of you are thinking, go figure, same as usual, repeated often in places like San Francisco and Los Angeles . . . two other major cities with epic homelessness issues controlled by the progressive socialist left.

However, the real story is not just the story, but rather the response from the Mayor of Austin, and one of the City Council members in response to Gov. Abbott’s terse, yet appropriate, social media message. Yes, as predictable, Austin’s Mayor Steve Adler responded:

“As quoted in the Texas Tribune [funded by George Soros], Austin Mayor Steve Adler suggested the demonizing of homeless people as a criminal monolith for political gain is a slippery slope.

“It’s misleading and it’s harmful to equate people experiencing homelessness with being criminals,” Adler said. “It’s like saying that immigrants are rapists. There’s a real damage to society when we demonize people in ways that are simply not true.”

So, a homeless person with a violent criminal history takes advantage of the policies of Austin’s mayor and City Council, kills someone, and the Austin mayor is more concerned with demonizing homeless people?

The Texas Scorecard had this to add to the story:

“Now, after all of that and the latest tragic event, Council Member Delia Garza responded defiantly to Abbott’s tweet about the homeless murderer.

“Events today were tragic. But the governor suggesting that ATX Council has the authority to change laws on violent attacks/homicide is more of his scapegoating and a distraction from his poor leadership and the failure to fund the mental health and housing resources Texans need,” tweeted Garza, who is now running for county attorney.

Her post immediately received a storm of backlash.

“What is really tragic @DGarzaforD2 is the fact that your policies are enabling these drug addicts to attack innocent people,” one citizen tweeted. “You placing blame on @GregAbbott_TX is shameful and disgusting. Electing you for County Attorney would be an epic mistake.”

“Lots of people who love Austin predicated that the ATX Council restricting police authority in dealing with homeless people who break the law would result in tragedy,” another replied. “Now it has and it is YOUR fault. Shame on you.”

“The fact [that] Austin is turning into California is a problem. I left California because of stuff like this and in just a few years Austin has changed into the place I left,” one citizen said. “You don’t want Austin to go down this rabbit hole it just gets worse from here.”

So what is the lesson learned from this exchange between the Governor, the mayor, and City Council member? It is quite simple: the ideological agenda of the progressive socialist left is more important to them than the safety and security of good honest citizens. At no point did Austin Mayor Adler or Councilwoman Garza express any remorse, or concern, about the innocent young person who is dead due to their policy. Instead of correcting the issue, the leftist in control of Austin Texas would rather shift blame. We have evidenced this elsewhere with the delusional mayor of Chicago blaming gun violence in her city on neighboring conservative states, regardless of the onerous gun control laws in Chicago.

Here in Texas, we are the top state in these United States of America for human and sex trafficking, yet the leftists embrace open borders as part of their ideological agenda.

At some point in time, when will we awaken and realize that these leftists do not care about our safety and security? In Virginia, they are endeavoring to disarm by way of gun confiscation, the ability for legal, law-abiding gun owners to protect and defend themselves. Imagine, what Mayor Adler and Councilwoman Garza would have said if the innocent citizen being attacked had drawn a firearm and shot the homeless assailant, killing him? What would the headlines read from Patch.com and the Texas Tribune? Notice, these left-leaning media outlets did not say too much about 71-year-old Jack Wilson who drew his legal concealed carry firearm and with one shot took down a bad person at the West Freeway Church of Christ.

Let me also remind everyone that it was the Austin Independent School District (ISD) board who voted unanimously for a sex education curriculum for 3rd-8th graders that in every sense of the word is pornographic. This was done regardless of the complaints of the parents, as we shared with y’all. Simply because the ideological agenda of indoctrinating your children is more important to the progressive socialist left than your children being educated, properly.

Do not forget that it was Austin Mayor Steve Adler, a Jewish man, who attended an Iftar dinner sponsored by the Council for American Islamic Relations (CAIR), featuring virulent anti-Semite Rep. Ilhan Omar as the keynote speaker. Not to mention the fact that CAIR is an unindicted co-conspirator in the largest Islamic terrorist funding trial in US history, the Holy Land Foundation case that was tried in Houston, Texas. Imagine, Austin’s mayor sitting in the presence of, and supporting, a militant Islamist such as Ilhan Omar, whose allegiance to the United States is questionable, though her anti-Semitism is clearly not.

For the left, the victim will always be the person who is associated with their ideological agenda. In this stabbing spree, it is the violent criminal homeless person. But “who cares?” certainly not the progressive socialist leftists who rule over Austin, Texas.

Now, after reading this post, fill in the blank. Austin, capital of ________________. I can attest — along with many others — that the answer does not appear to be Texas.
