Greetings, everyone, from Manhattan, Kansas!
Yes, the Little Apple, where Angela and I are attending the Kansas State University Alumni Foundation spring trustees meeting. Angela earned her BS and Ph.D. degrees from K-State and was a business professor there. I earned my first Masters degree and taught Army ROTC at K-State. Manhattan, Kansas, holds a special place in our hearts. It is here that the West family began back in 1989. I met Angela here and both our daughters, Aubrey and Austen were born here in Kansas. Aubrey was born a Ft. Riley and Austen in Topeka. We love this beautiful little place where our first home, 300 Morning Glory Drive, still stands.
Anyone that knows Manhattan knows that there is a simple aspect of life there, and a friendly one as well. Anywhere in the town, you are greeted by the words “Go Cats” or “EMAW” (Every Man a Wildcat). Yes, the PC police had a fit, but the women of K-State stood tall and love that saying.
I believe we all long for that simple, special place where life is not complicated, folks are friendly, and common sense tends to prevail. We called that place America, and maybe that is why the Wizard of Oz is an American classic, based in Kansas . . . and why Superman is from a fictional town, Smallville, Kansas.
However, the “real” world can be nuts, confusing, and abjectly disturbing. There are things that happen and ideas offered that just make us scratch our heads. In those times we often have certain sayings. I am sure y’all know what YGBSM stands. If you do not, ask someone.
I just have to tell ya, after reading this article, that is exactly what I said . . . and that is why I am glad to be heading to Manhattan, Kansas, where I am sure, there are patriots who are saying the very same thing!
As reported by the Washington Free Beacon:
“Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) has backed or proposed plans during her 2020 presidential campaign that total up to $129 trillion in spending over the next 10 years, a Washington Free Beacon analysis shows.
Along with backing the Green New Deal ($94 trillion) and Medicare for All ($32.6 trillion), which total an estimated $126.6 trillion in estimated government spending over the next decade according to various studies, three of Warren’s major proposals alone cost $2.365 trillion: opioids ($100 billion), canceling student debt and offering free public college ($1.25 to $1.565 trillion), and universal child care ($700 billion).
Warren has won praise on the left for saying she has “got a plan” for various issues, and she has proposed an “ultra-millionaire,” 2 percent tax on Americans worth $50 million or more—it rises to 3 percent on Americans worth at least $1 billion—to pay for many of her projects, claiming it will raise about $2.75 trillion over the next decade.
Alongside Rep. Elijah Cummings (D., Md.), Warren unveiled a $100 billion initiative to combat the nation’s opioid epidemic on Wednesday. She wrote in a Medium post that the federal funding would be doled out over 10 years to provide state and local governments resources for prevention, treatment, and recovery.
Last month, Warren pitched a plan to offer universal free public college and cancel up to $50,000 in student loan debt for nearly 45 million Americans. Her own campaign found the price tag to be $1.25 trillion, with eliminating tuition costing $610 billion and forgiving debts costing about $640 billion.
The Urban Institute guessed the actual cost of forgiving debts was $955 billion, which would raise the price for the proposal to $1.565 trillion.”
Okay, I think I just heard all y’all saying YGTBSM. This reminds me of the famous saying of one Lady Margaret Thatcher, “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.”
More importantly, these ideas of Warren, Sanders, Ocasio-Cortez, de Blasio, and the entire clown car of progressive socialists are no different from the rhetoric we have previously heard, not too long ago from a fella named Hugo Chavez, in a place called Venezuela. I know that the delusional Rep. Ilhan Omar tends to believe that the problems in Venezuela are the fault of President Trump. However, how does one explain the economic and societal destruction of a country that was once was of the most prosperous in the world? A place where today, people are being gunned down in the streets by a tyrannical government and are starving to death.
Let me put this all into perspective: we currently have a $4T annual budget, that translates to $40T in spending over the next ten years. And consider that we are also running near trillion-dollar deficits and have a debt of over $22T. What Warren and her ilk are proposing means an increase to $12.9T per year of government spending, and these deranged American socialists believe that this can happen by just taxing the “rich.” You just wait and see, the goalpost will move and the definition of “rich” will go through many different changes and refinements. What will happen in that capital, investment, the resources required for economic growth will be sucked out of our pockets and placed into the hands of people like Bernie Sanders who never had a job until his 40s . . . or the little American Evita Peron who was a bartender.
What is this really all about, y’all know, is buying votes. This is what every single socialist dictator has done in history. They have promised “free” at the expense of others, redistributing their wealth, offering equality of outcomes that ends up with an equal sharing of misery.
Ya hear that? Stop, listen quietly, and you will hear the cries of the once free and prosperous people of Venezuela saying “YGTBSM.” If we, the free people of America do not say this now, saying it after the fact is, well, too late.
What does anyone gain by surrendering their freedom, liberty, their unalienable right to pursue their own happiness to the likes of the maniacal people, tyrants, like Elizabeth Warren? Have we in America become so very weak, pathetic, and incapable that we must rely on manipulative liars like an Elizabeth Warren to guarantee happiness in the land of rainbows, unicorns, and skittles?
Let me leave you with this thought, quote from Scottish political philosopher, Alexander Fraser Tytler:
Ask yourselves: where is America in this cycle?
Even though the acronym didn’t exist in the time of Tytler, I can also him saying, “YGTBSM, I warned y’all about this centuries ago.” As the saying goes, “those who fail to learn from history, are doomed to repeat it.” Something tells me that Ms. Ocasio-Cortez did not study Tytler, or perhaps anything of substance while earning her Economics degree from Boston University. Then again, very few of our young people are receiving a proper education in America, but rather an indoctrination. No wonder that these young people think socialism is cool, acceptable.
That reminds me of another acronym, FUBAR . . . because Socialism Sucks!
