Disgusting: Left Uses Vet as Punchline

In Culture, Front Page, Military by Allen West5 Comments

I remember back in 2016 at the Democrat National convention in Philadelphia when US Army Medal of Honor Captain Florent Groberg took the stage. I served in the 4th Infantry Division, and so did CPT Groberg, an Airborne and Ranger qualified infantry officer. Much to my disgust, the gathering of progressive socialists booed and heckled Captain Groberg as he spoke from the podium. It was an appalling display from a political party that does not hide its animus toward our men and women in uniform.

Yes, I recently wrote about the efforts of former US Marine and Massachusetts Representative Seth Moulton to recruit and run veterans under the Democrat party banner. This is the only reason why the progressive socialist left embraces veterans, to use them for electoral gain.

But, just when you think the left could not go any lower, well, they find a way. As reported by The Hill:

“Saturday Night Live” comic Pete Davidson on Saturday night’s show mocked Texas congressional candidate Dan Crenshaw (R) for wearing an eye patch after losing his eye in combat while serving in Afghanistan, prompting swift backlash on social media from conservatives defending the former Navy SEAL.

The comment from Davidson came during a segment on the show’s mock newscast, “Weekend Update.”

“This guy is kind of cool, Dan Crenshaw,” Davidson said while showing a photo of Crenshaw wearing an eye patch. “You may be surprised to hear he’s a congressional candidate for Texas and not a hit-man in a porno movie,” Davidson added. “I’m sorry. I know he lost his eye in war – or whatever,” he added, to laughter from the live studio audience.

“Whatever,” Davidson chuckled after the audience response died down.

Crenshaw is running in Texas’ 2nd Congressional District and was in the U.S. Navy from 2006 to 2016, serving as a Navy SEAL and lieutenant commander. He lost his right eye in an improvised explosive device blast in 2012 in Afghanistan’s Helmand province. Crenshaw went on to deploy twice more in the Middle East and South Korea before retiring in 2016.”

Whatever? Whatever? I must admit, I have not watched a “Saturday Night Live” episode, well, since the days of Belushi and Aykroyd. I barely watched Eddie Murphy and Adam Sandler. But, this is not funny, not at all. What is even sicker is that this was not some spontaneous vignette. It was planned, and that means everyone in the production staff knew this was part of a routine. So, I guess a Valorous US Navy SEAL who loses an eye in the service of his nation, in combat, is fair game for jest to the progressive socialist left?

Imagine the pre-production concept meeting and someone suggests, “hey, let’s make fun and mock this US Navy SEAL who is running for Congress that lost his eye in combat.” Who was the adult in the room that looked around and said, “that is the dumbest idea I have ever heard; we do not mock Navy SEALs.” No one, and I mean no one, said that . . . perhaps they all laughed and said, that is really cool. And then someone wrote the lines for the segment . . . someone typed those lines into the teleprompter to be read. And someone was responsible for getting a picture of Dan Crenshaw, and someone was responsible for uploading his image into the segment.

My point is that every bit of this was planned, deliberate, and pre-meditated. At no single point of intervention did anyone at NBC or SNL step in. What does that tell you?

To mock Dan Crenshaw, a retired US Navy SEAL Lieutenant Commander, 6th generation Texan, with an undergraduate degree from Tufts University, and a Master’s degree from Harvard is beyond absurd, it is classless. Then again, so was booing a Medal of Honor recipient, but this is what we have come to expect from these leftists.

Now, of course, we will hear the usual response from the progressive socialist left that Pete Davidson was just kidding. It was all just a joke, and that he has the utmost respect for Dan Crenshaw and our men and women uniform. I call bovine excrement. First of all, mocking and comparing a decorated Navy SEAL to a “hit man in a porno movie” holds no humor. Secondly, it is not just Pete Davidson, but the entire production team that put together the segment, and knowingly mocked Crenshaw were cognizant of the lack of class this represented.

No, there will be no consequences for Davidson, or anyone at SNL. The real consequences need to come at the ballot box on Tuesday to, in no uncertain terms, send a message to the leftists. If there is an apology offered, it will come with no sincerity.

Dan Crenshaw’s response is indicative of the class, and toughness, of the man, “Crenshaw also responded to “SNL” in a tweet, saying he tries “not to be offended” but the program should recognize “that vets don’t deserve to see their wounds used as punchlines for bad jokes.”

Oh, by the way, did I mention that Barack Obama did not attend the funeral of another Texan . . . the highly decorated US Navy SEAL Chris Kyle?
