I love to share with y’all the very special things I get to experience. Just yesterday, I was so humbled, and honored, to be invited to a small, private, gathering to hear insights from our US Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley. I have said it before, and will reiterate it, I truly believe that Amb. Haley will be the first female President of these United States of America. Her résumé is impeccable, and she is highly accomplished, as a Governor, and as our Ambassador to the UN. Her grasp of our foreign policy, and its challenges is above reproach, and her delivery resonates a comprehensive competence, and capability. Her story is, indeed, an American success story, one that reflects an education that prepared her for the success she has enjoyed. She is a proud graduate of Clemson University, with a degree in Accounting. No wonder she did so well with the economy of South Carolina.
See, education is the key; it is the key to unlock the doors of the equality of opportunity; one without regard as to where you are born, or where you come from. That is the essence of the American dream. I know, because this was the greatest emphasis of my parents: a quality education in order to enhance my possibilities of success in America.
Thus, today, I am on a flight back to my birth State of Georgia, to speak at a commencement and commissioning ceremony. There is nothing like going back home to the Peach State of Georgia, but this time it is even more special.
I will be addressing the graduating class of the Georgia Military College (GMC). The Georgia Military College (GMC) was established in 1879 by act of the Georgia General Assembly “…to educate young men and women from the Middle Georgia area in an environment which fosters the qualities of good citizenship.”
Today, GMC is one of only five Military Junior Colleges in the United States. Georgia Military College offers a liberal-arts based, two-year curriculum designed to support student attainment of an Associate degree, and prepares students for transfer to four-year colleges, and universities. Students with an Associate of Applied Science degree are offered a curriculum designed to support attainment of a Bachelor of Applied Science degree. For selected college students, who enroll in the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC), and, preparatory school students in the Junior ROTC program, GMC includes a military training, and education component.
My point, here, is to stress that education in America is supposed to be about preparing our future generations to be exceptional, productive, citizens, members of our American society. However, for some that just isn’t the case. I am specifically addressing the progressive, socialist, left.
In the Communist Manifesto, written by Karl Marx, and Friedrich Engels, one of their ideological planks is state control of education. Why? Marx stated, “Education is free. Freedom of education shall be enjoyed under the condition fixed by law and under the supreme control of the state.” He also said, “The education of all children, from the moment that they can get along without a mother’s care, shall be in state institutions.” It was Vladimir Lenin who said, “Give me four years to teach the children, and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted,” and “Give me just one generation of youth, and I’ll transform the whole world.”Marx stated, 'Education is free. Freedom of education shall be enjoyed under the condition fixed by law and under the supreme control of the state.' Click To Tweet
For the progressive socialist left — Marxists — it’s not about education, but rather, indoctrination. This is why the leftists in America want no part of school choice, school vouchers, charter schools, or homeschooling. This is why their leftist teachers unions seek to squash any of these means by which alternatives to their state control of education could possibly exist. This is why we have a generation of young people who actually say they prefer socialism over free market capitalism. And, this is why the following excerpt was sent to me, highlighting the liberal, progressive, leftist movement to defeat any alternative means of education in America.
Read this, and be concerned, be alarmed, and consider yourself warned:
“An important meeting of a college accreditation committee (NACIQI), in Washington, DC this week saw a small, but very vocal group of education activists use the forum to continue their baseless attacks against private college education. The committee, chaired by Dr. Arthur Keiser, hoped to provide a forum for thoughtful discussion of proper oversight of for-profit colleges that are exploring ways to convert their schools to non-profit status. The radical left used the meeting as a forum to stage full assault on private college education, with liberal speakers, and protesters, who had a unified goal of trashing private education, and personally attacking the committee’s chairman, and others who operate private schools.
As part of this coordinated attack on private college education, Democrat Sens. Warren, Durbin, Blumenthal, Brown, and others, recently attempted to pressure the IRS to harass private colleges. The Senators wrongly claimed they are seeing a “…troubling trend of for-profit colleges converting to, or attempting to, convert to non-profit organizations.” There is no trend! – only a handful of private colleges exploring perfectly legal options to change their business models. In addition, they want the IRS to “closely scrutinize” these schools. This shameful tactic of using the IRS as a political weapon has been tried before – during the Obama years – against many conservative organizations.
Education elites believe in government-run education as the only viable education model in America. A handful of these elites, including Robert Shireman, Tariq Habash, Yon Cao with The Century Foundation; and “education analyst” David Halperin, regularly attack private college education, and their leaders. Having no influence at the White House, Dept. of Education, or Congress, this small group of ultra-liberal activists hope to use government agencies as political weapons to bring down private education in America, and undermine competition, and student choice.
Among the colleges on Democrats hit list are Purdue University, which received final approval to purchase Kaplan University as a way of expanding its online footprint; and Grand Canyon University, which serves 75,000 students, embracing students of faith. Our country is facing a skilled worker shortage of approximately 6 million people. Private, career-oriented colleges and universities can help fill a huge gap in the American labor force, while at the same time providing a quality education that leads to good paying jobs for hundreds of thousands of students.”
In full disclosure, I know Dr. Arthur Keiser, and his wife, Belinda, of Keiser University. I spoke at several of their commencement ceremonies as a sitting Member of Congress. These are outstanding, and upstanding, Americans; educators who are being targeted, and assailed, by the progressive, socialist, left.
Why do we still have these Democrat senators seeking to unleash the coercive and intimidation power of a government agency against those who have done nothing wrong? This is yet another example of how we are starting to resemble a socialist state instead of a Constitutional Republic. It is time we expose people like a Robert Shireman, and the organizations, along with leftist politicians, who are enabling them in this Marxist quest to turn our system of education into one of singular, progressive, socialist, indoctrination.
Friday morning I will stand before the graduating class of Georgia Military College. It’s time we start asking ourselves: if it is up to the liberal, progressive, leftists in America, how many more of these graduations will there be? What shall be the model of our education system in America? That of Karl Marx, and Vladimir Lenin?
Not on my watch.
