Greetings, everyone, from Lombard, IL, just outside of Chicago!
I arrived Thursday evening for the 99th reunion of the First Infantry Division, the famed Big Red One. I served in 1ID between 1988-1991, commanding an artillery unit, and participating in Operation Desert Storm.
It’s a great honor to be here with three World War II Veterans, one who landed on Omaha Beach, and those who served in Vietnam. What we are missing are more Big Red One combat veterans from Operation Desert Storm to the present Operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
It is imperative that we who remain on this side of Valhalla gather, remember, and commit to honoring and maintaining our traditions. As well, we must support each other and share the stories and memories of our Fallen Warriors.
I am gonna take a little hiatus to enjoy my brothers and sisters, those who lived, and continue to embody the motto, “No mission too difficult. No sacrifice too great. Duty First.”
Oh, by the way, the First Infantry Division Artillery Association reunion will be October 4-5 in Ft. Sill, OK. I will be there, and hope to see you First Infantry Division Redlegs there! Here are a few pictures of the reunion:
