Allen West Old School Patriot Supreme Court

Important Victory for Religious Freedom

In Culture, Faith, Front Page, US Constitution by Allen West2 Comments

When the Supreme Court ruled that same-sex marriage was the “law of the land” in Obergefell v. Hodges, something far and above their enumerated power set the course for a collision.

Christians have been forced, supposedly legally, to surrender their first liberty, freedom of religion, to the progressive, socialist, left’s manmade belief. Melissa and Aaron Klein, of Sweet Cakes by Melissa, in Oregon have been ruined by legalized plunder, and mandate, for not providing their services for a same-sex wedding ceremony. Perhaps the Kleins, along with a florist in Washington State, and a portrait studio owner in New Mexico, are now vindicated.

As reported by National Review:

“The Supreme Court ruled Monday in favor of the Colorado baker who refused to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple. Writing the opinion for the 7-2 majority, Justice Anthony Kennedy found that the Colorado Civil Rights Commission violated baker Jack Phillips’ rights by mandating that he create custom wedding cakes for same-sex couples. Phillips’ attorneys argued that he would never refuse service outright to a gay person, but stipulated that his religious beliefs prevented him from creating a custom wedding cake for a same-sex celebration.  Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sonia Sotomayor cast the lone dissenting votes, splitting from their liberal colleagues Stephen Breyer and Elena Kagan, who voted with the majority. In defending the majority opinion, Kennedy cited Colorado state law, which at the time held that merchants were entitled to decline to print specific messages demeaning gay people and other groups. Phillips, 62, owner of the Masterpiece Cakeshop, claimed that he was defending the rights of all “creative artists” to determine the nature of the content they produce throughout the five year legal battle.”

Now, just wait. The radical LGBT, and progressive, socialist, left is going nuts over this, and the leftist media will do everything to hype this decision. This SCOTUS decision was narrow in determining that, due to religious faith beliefs, one could not be forced to provide services for a specific event using their artistic expression. This decision does not say that Christians can refuse service to individuals due to their sexual orientation. Of course the leftist media will proclaim that we’ll now have business owners refusing service to Blacks all over again — sorry y’all, that is not what this is about. The SCOTUS decision pertains to those who have a faith-based belief in traditional marriage not being forced to provide their talents for that which violates their beliefs, simple.

But, this will not be so for the left, that is simple. Just watch, the media is already preparing their talking points to somehow blame this on President Trump, and what they will term “alt-right Christian bigotry.” The left will try to leverage this as some political scorecard, and fundraising tool, in order to advance their chances in the midterm elections. After all, we do not need these Christian Trump supporters denying gays and lesbians a wedding cake — you know, they do have a right to force anyone to make them a wedding cake. Look, if someone were business savvy, they would turn this into an opportunity in the free market to provide wedding services for same-sex couples.

The SCOTUS still holds that same-sex marriage is the law of the land, that didn’t change. They have just decided that those with a faith belief in traditional marriage cannot be forced, by the State (government), to participate, provide services, for such a ceremony. This was a landslide decision, 7-2. This was all about interpreting the law, and our ultimate rule of law is the Constitution. And, the very first right in our Bill of Rights is freedom of religion.

Oh, by the way, just a reminder to my dear, progressive, socialist friends on the left: recently a court in NYC ruled in favor of a business establishment that refused service to a patron wearing a “Make America Great Hat.” I think it best that the left does not protest this decision at all, since they cheered the refusal of service for someone wearing a red Trump hat. The LGBT will certainly assert that the SCOTUS decision promotes hate, which is hardly true. However, refusing to serve someone just because of a hat they are wearing . . . tell me, when did liberal progressivism triumph over freedom of expression? Yes, even if that expression is diametrically opposed political belief, it should not be disrespected. I do not care for the American flag being burned in America. Yet, the SCOTUS ruled that is part of freedom of expression; the left was happy. Perhaps the left can understand why Jack Phillips is happy today, along with Melissa and Aaron Klein, who were fined hundreds of thousands of dollars, and lost their business. I do hope the Kleins sue the State of Oregon to recover the funds illicitly taken from them.

Bottom line with the SCOTUS decision: if you are a same-sex couple that wants to get married, you have that right. However, you are not allowed to violate the rights of others who have a faith belief supporting traditional marriage between one man and one woman, compelling them to participate, or celebrate, with you. And guess what, two left leaning Supreme Court Justices agreed with that fundamental principle.

Have a great day, and God bless Jack Phillips for having the courage to stand.
