When Government Won’t Act, Citizens Will

Today I bring you a story that is not receiving all the attention that I believe it should. It has to do with concerned American citizens taking action when the government will not.

Yes, I am talking about the actions happening in New Mexico where armed US citizens are detaining illegal immigrants crossing into America, and turning them over to US Border Patrol agents. The stock response is that we should not have armed vigilantes doing such as this…then again, we should not have armed gangs freely operating along our southern border.

As reported by Fox News:

“A New Mexico man belonging to a militia group accused of detaining migrants along the U.S.-Mexico border at gunpoint was arrested Saturday on charges of firearms possession by a felon, authorities said. Larry Mitchell Hopkins, 69, was arrested in the border community of Sunland Park with the help of local authorities, the FBI said in a statement.

Hopkins was a member of the group holding migrants in the area, New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas said in a separate statement. Hopkins “is a dangerous felon who should not have weapons around children and families. Today’s arrest by the FBI indicates clearly that the rule of law should be in the hands of trained law enforcement officials, not armed vigilantes,” Balderas said.

The militia group, which calls itself the United Constitutional Patriots, earlier this week posted several videos to social media showing armed civilians detaining large groups of Central American families in New Mexico. One video showed the group holding about 200 asylum-seeking migrants at gunpoint until U.S. Border Patrol agents arrived, The New York Times reported.

The group’s objective is to monitor the border until President Trump fulfills his campaign promise of a border wall or until Congress enacts stronger legislation to make it more difficult for migrants to request asylum, spokesman Jim Benvie told the Times in a phone interview on Thursday.

Benvie said in a video that the group’s members were assisting a “stressed and overstrained Border Patrol” and said the group is legally armed for self-defense and never points guns at migrants. The posted videos do not show them with firearms drawn.”

I want y’all to consider this: the House Democrats, under Nancy Pelosi, voted against a Republican Motion to Reconsider, that would have required illegal immigrants seeking to purchase a firearm be reported to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Now, we can all come out and condemn these Americans who live along the southern border for taking action to protect themselves. The progressive socialist elitists at the NY Times, CNN, and MSNBC are not living along our very own border in fear for their lives, safety, security. Why are they armed? Simple, because the TransNational Criminal Organizations (TNCOs), aka drug cartels, coyotes, and gangs, such as MS-13 are. They are armed because they have a constitutional right to keep and bear arms, and that right shall not be infringed. They are taking action because the elected officials are not, based upon ideological agenda . . . and they are the ones suffering.

shared with y’all last week how depleted and stretched thin the US Border Patrol is in the McAllen Sector. There are just 600 agents assigned, and they have 120 of them detailed out elsewhere. They are averaging just 30-50 agents per a duty shift. I saw them processing some 455 illegal immigrants at their station last week at 10 am. Our Border Patrol is being overwhelmed, as hundreds and thousands are flooding their zones/sectors. Assets are drawn to these infiltrations, meaning these resources are pulled from somewhere else. That leads to a very insidious game of “whack-a-mole” along our border.

These Americans are not dumb, they turn on their TVs and see certain politicians calling their plight, their burden a “manufactured crisis.” They see people seeking to eliminate ICE, the agency tasked with policing up criminal illegal immigrants, gangs, human and sex trafficking.

Let me ask y’all a simple question: what are these law-abiding Americans supposed to do when those elected are not doing their constitutional duty?

I will certainly not condemn these Americans. I want us to all try to understand their frustration, what has led them to take these actions. The answer is simple: it is the failure of elected officials, politicians, and that is bipartisan. The GOP-controlled House, under Paul Ryan, and Senate, under Mitch McConnell, did nothing during the two years they had a majority under President Trump.

We know that Nancy Pelosi will do nothing. We see idiots like Bob O’Rourke just giddy about welcoming asylum seekers and advocating for open borders. When you consider all of this, these everyday Americans living along our southern border, like the folks I met in McAllen Texas, who are being dumped on and abandoned by their own government,  I understand. I am not going to blame these folks for standing up, it is their lives that are on the line, while these delusional politicized ideologues sit back under armed protection.

America has a tradition of armed citizens taking a stand. Just think about April 19, 1775, there was no United States of America. There was no federal government. But, when the British decided to invade and march inland to disarm those Patriots, they took a stand. The only difference between that bit of history and today is that there is a United States of America, defined borders, a federal government that has a Constitution, rule of law. In that Constitution are the words of Article IV, Section 4 that relates to the protection of our sovereign border.

The federal government has enumerated powers, but those not enumerated to the federal government are the powers of the States, the people . . . as expressed in the Ninth and Tenth Amendments of our Constitution, the last two of our Bill of Rights. We may not like it. We may disagree. But, when the federal government willingly decides to not uphold our rule of law and protect us, we, the American people, have a right to defend ourselves.

If you do not live along our southern border and live in fear of the consequences and ramifications of our failures to secure our border, then have a nice hot cup of  Sierra-Tango-Foxtrot-Uniform. Folks over in Rhode Island did not criticize the actions of the patriots who made a stand at Lexington Green and Concord as a response to the British invasion.

And yes, illegally entering the United States of America, the Founding Fathers classified it as an invasion. To the United Constitutional Patriots, shame on us for forcing y’all to believe this is your only course of action.
